It was a beautiful sunny day April 2011 at Seaside Reef for the Rob Machado Pro Junior surf contest where the next generation of pros were in attendance to support Rob Machado’s local community. Seaside was the first pro contest that Rob Machado ever surfed in and he jumped at the chance to bring one back to that break.

The Rob Machado event represents the first of three stops on the Women’s ASP North America Pro Junior Series. To qualify for the ASP Women’s World Junior Tour the surfer must win the regional series. The defending Women’s ASP North America Pro Junior Series Champion is Lakey Peterson (Santa Barbara, 16).

The youngest female competitor, 10 year old Meah Collins, proved that age was not a factor in competing toe to toe with more seasoned surfers. She exhibited the grace, style and determination of an up and coming pro contender.

Nage Melamed from Hawaii went on to win the title.
