Coco Ho

Coco Ho was born April 28, 1991 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She began surfing at 7 years old, following in the footsteps of her family. Famous surfers run in the Ho family. Coco’s father, Michael Ho, was a professional as well as her uncle, Derek as well as her brother, Mason. Raised on Oahu’s North Shore, Coco spent most of her time surfing the “Seven Mile Miracle”. Coco earned her first sponsorship at 8-years-old and at age 17, she qualified for the ASP Women’s World Championship Tour. In 2009, Coco won the Rookie of the Year award.

Coco’s powerful carves and aerial moves were built on a foundation of a hereditary style and grace. She also became a social media darling, pulling in tens of thousands of Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram followers, especially after a 2011 YouTube video of Ho and a pro surfer girlfriends Laura Enever and Alana Blanchard dancing endearingly to pop music in an Australian hotel room became a surf media sensation. Surf writer Matt George, called Coco a “glowing bundle of pure, giggling delight”.

The one bit of misfortune to land on Ho is that her career has been overshadowed by that of fellow Hawaiian surfer girl Carissa Moore, who followed up her 2010 Rookie of the Year win with a convincing world title victory in 2011. Ho finished 6th in the ratings that year, and again in 2013.

Ho has appeared in numerous webclips, and was featured in the Nike-funded all-girls surf video Leave a Message (2011). She also had a brief part in the 2002 Hollywood production Blue Crush. She made surf-world headlines in for surfing nude in ESPN’s 2014 Body Issue, along with swimmer Michael Phelps, tennis star Venus Williams, and running back Marshawn Lynch.

Today, Coco has won over 25 surfing awards and has been voted a top three fan favorite in Surfer magazine’s Surfer Poll.
