Keely Andrew was born on December 2, 1994 in Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast, Australia. Keely always knew that she wanted to be a professional athlete. She competed in every sport imaginable before she narrowed the list down to tennis and surfing. When she was 16, her parents forced Keely to pick a sport to concentrate her talents on. Surfing won out. She finished second in the Australian Junior Surfing Titles, which was a wake-up call to realize she could take this somewhere.
Keely is a late bloomer in the competitive world of surfing (21 years of age), but her family believed an education was paramount to an early start in professional surfing, requiring that she finish year 12 before competing overseas. According to her coach, Tim Just of Fluid Performance, said the delay, hasn’t appeared to hurt her in the slightest. He saw her talent was evident from early on, but he admits she had room to grow in strength and conditioning.
In 2015, Keely lost her major sponsor, Fox. However, her biggest supporters are her family. She is really close to her mother, her two brothers and dad, who send her a lot of feedback on every single contest she is in.
Keely Andrew represents strength and determination and is a positive role model and inspiration to young women in Australia and beyond. Keely is proof that when you have a vision and unrelenting dedication that you can do anything you put your mind to.
